Face of Housing is Changing

The face of housing is changing rapidly in most communities. At one time it was easy to find a house in the low $100’s in Taylor. Now it is hard to find one under $170K – $180K. This seems to be happening in many communities, surrounding larger cities. As people are forced out of housing markets in big cities they are migrating to rural areas. In the Austin area, families are moving to smaller communities such as Taylor, Hutto, Manor, Georgetown, and Cedar Park. This makes it challenging for families to find workforce housing to either buy or rent in rural areas. An answer for some may be USDA’s 502 direct loan program. It is a zero down payment program that is specific to rural areas. The closest USDA office is in Georgetown and can be accessed online at www.usda.gov. It may be worth the time to do research on it.
